Is this real life?
Did a person whose job is to be a communicator between bay area occupy movements just tell me that we shouldn’t discuss racism, homophobia, transphobia in the occupy movements because it is divisive and if we don’t “just get over it and come together” the government will “erase us all”?
Using an awfully condescending tone and “play” on my own concerns in stating that it is “erasing to many not discuss the issues and work towards having all people heard”……
WOW.
I can’t even right now.
Let’s say that conversation ended right there and then because said person then avoided talking to me the rest of the dinner though they were seated directly in front of me.
This was topped off by another person next to me talking about how crazy and angry Salvadoran’s are and all sorts of awful assumptions and stereotypes about El Salvador. When I asked if they’d ever actually lived there and grilled them on their shambles of knowledge on its history they didn’t want to talk to me either. I suppose hearing an actual native Salvadoran talk about real history, real people is just not interesting as theory and stereotypes.
This was a strange feeling. Sitting at a table of people who identify as radical activists and being enraged….
Well then.
Alright bay area tumblr folks, we need a get together.

As much as I support the Occupy movement (s), there are a number of issues that fester within it—like homophobia and racism. :/ and ugh, I too have heard vile things said about us Salvies and our country. Ridiculous.
